Persons serving the Deacons' Service Ministry Council are ordained to serve at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Deacons offer support to the Senior Minister and members of the ministerial staff, church staff and all ministries of the church. Annually, Deacons participate in the Seniors Christmas Dinner, coordinate Christmas Cheer activity, sponsor mission activities to support individuals or families, reach out to families experiencing bereavement and loss, and are generally available to assist families in all ways possible-as it coincides with Christian principles of the church-and that is to be "servants of the church; to proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers and to be caring for the church's members and persons in the community".

The purpose of the deaf ministry is to provide interpretation, for the deaf, at all spoken events that take place at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The deaf ministry also provides sign language classes that are open to children and adults who are interested in learning the language. The ministry meets on a monthly basis and holds quarterly workshops that are open to the public.

Global Health Ministry

The Global Health Ministry provides medical care to our brothers and sisters across the seas. The
Ministry is blessed with the opportunity to serve God as missionaries to Jamaica, Guyana and Africa by providing medical care to a variety of people with a myriad of diseases through our physicians and nurses. Eye exams by our optometrist resulted in hundreds of eyeglasses being dispensed. Children and adults were relieved of pain and discomfort from dental decay by our dentists. Bright smiles have been the result of cleanings by the dental hygienist.
HIV/AIDS Ministry

International Children's Outreach Ministry (ICOM)

The International Children's Outreach program organizes opportunities to bring at-risk children to live with Christian host families in the United States on a short-term basis. The International Children's Outreach program also partners with humanitarian aid groups, congregations, and Christian organizations to work with targeted groups. Additionally, the ministry orchestrates opportunities with volunteers enabling them to grow spiritually, educationally and culturally. An "at-risk" child is defined as any child that is suffering from environmental, health, economic, violence (including, but not limited to war), educational or any other risk factor.

The Trustees' Council of the Church serves in a capacity, as delegated by the Board of Directors, to ensure the safety and soundness of the fiscal assets of the Church. The Council shall consist of 15
members in good standing recommended by the Senior Minister and appointed by the Board of
Directors. Duties of the Trustees include accounting for and managing the offering and tithes collection process, financial statement reviews, the Church budget process, insurance gift benefit program review, business seminar ministry process, investment ministry process and review, and Church real estate
property and procurement, selling and management. Terms of service are three years with reelection up to three consecutive terms. Trustees meet once per quarter.
Youth Opportunity University

Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.) is a community-oriented program designed for global children (Kindergarten-seventh grades) to improve their academic performance and to provide a variety of enrichment experiences. The program runs for eight weeks during the summer and is administered by the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor. Participants are engaged in full curriculum activities which include Mathematics, Language Arts, African-American Studies, Bible Study, Cultural Arts, Physical Education, Swimming, Career Exploration and Foreign Language Enrichment. In addition to the core curriculum, fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students select and implement a Community Service Project. Youth
Opportunity University is proud of the highly qualified staff and the professional manner in which they work with children and communicate the goals of Y.O.U.

The Boy Scouts of America is an Organization for boys that promote citizenship, leadership and
character development through camping, skill development and service to others. To be a Boy Scout a boy must have completed the fifth grade, or earned the Arrow of Light award, or be 11 years of age but not yet 18 years of age.
Troop 63 meets weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm until 8:00pm beginning the first Tuesday after Labor Day and ending the third week of June (meetings are sometimes cancelled due to church activities and holidays).

This appointed committee is responsible for the recommendation and review of the church's annual budget. After ministry organizations have submitted their proposed budgets for the coming year, this group is responsible for reviewing and compiling budgets and recommending to the General Board the adoption of coming year's budget. During the budget year, this committee reviews the performance of the church the budget.

Formed on the foundation that any member of Friendship who is desiring to continue their education beyond high school, this appointed committee's objective is to solicit and review scholarship applications from the church membership. New and renewal applications are reviewed annually to screen for qualifications and to determine the amount of scholarship for each applicant.
Cub Scouts

Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7,8,9 and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack. Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third-graders) , Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders) meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month from 10:00am until 12:00 noon. Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cub Master and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.

Genesis Charitable Fund
The Genesis Charitable Fund for Catastrophe Relief, Inc. ("Genesis") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to mitigate the impact of catastrophic events on local, regional, national and international communities through awareness, education and emergency programs. Leveraging lessons learned and relationships established during its efforts following Hurricane Katrina, Genesis has established a multi-year plan. The plan includes the Homeless Children of Mecklenburg County Initiative, a tactical initiative to address immediate needs of the community; the Disaster Relief Initiative, emergency response to local, national and international disasters; and, Global Economic Development, strategic initiatives to combat world hunger through economic development.

The goal of the College Outreach Ministry is to provide a Christian Baptist Ministry witness for students through activities on and off campus from the months of September through April. Objectives include a watch care ministry, counseling, networking, limited transportation and fellowship with the Friendship family. The College Outreach Ministry communicates with assigned college students that register with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Undergraduate and postgraduate members/relatives of the church receive birthday cards, letters, calls or e-mail throughout the academic year. Each month, the committee meets to prepare packages or envelopes for the students.

Children begin to learn what worship is, how to behave in church, the importance of missions and creative lessons based on exciting curriculum. Here children learn the basic principles of faith and how God expects us to live.
Nursery Ministry

The Nursery Ministry provides a Christian, nurturing, loving and safe environment for infants-4 years old during worship services. The Nursery consists of lead staff, parent, non-parent, and youth volunteers. Volunteers interact with the children by reading stories, singing, supervising games, holding babies as needed and assisting the lead staff. The lead staff person is the facilitator, who is experienced in working with children from infants-4 years old. Additionally, the lead staff is knowledgeable on early childhood development and age appropriate activities, schedules volunteers and has good communication skills. CPR and First Aid training are a must. Parent volunteers are asked to volunteer one Sunday per month; non-parent volunteers - two or more times per year.
Purposeful Singles Ministry

The Purposeful Singles Ministry serves to minister to the singles in our congregation through studying the Word of God on how to live as a single believer in Christ, building healthy relationships, budgeting, fellowship and fun. The ministry has no age limit. It does not matter whether you have never been married, are divorced or a widow. African-American Heritage

The mission of the African-American Heritage Ministry (AAHM) is to enlighten the community about our rich heritage through cultural activities and events from a Christian perspective. AAHM conducts the majority of its activities during Black History Month such as, personalities, movie previews, quiz bowls, and more. AAHM has also helped organize an International tasting event, a Missionary potluck, and seminars on black love and finance. We welcome new members interested in African-American history and culture to join this group.

CROP WALK (Christian Rural Overseas Program) began in 1946. Money raised through CROP WALK is used to combat international and domestic hunger. People in more than seven countries receive assistance, much of which is directed toward local participation, long term problem solving and self-help. A portion of monies raised is returned to the local community. In Charlotte, three agencies share in 25% of the funds raised. The agencies are Loaves & Fishes (an emergency food ministry), Crises Assistance Ministries (working with families facing economic crisis) and Metrolina Food Bank (a clearinghouse that receives and redistributes food to charitable agencies).

The Greeters Ministry is a service ministry dedicated to helping and giving. We strive to uplift the mission of FMBC by ensuring that all who enter our Father's house feel welcomed. Our responsibility is to greet worshippers with God's warmth through an enthusiastic greeting and a warm and heartfelt smile. In most cases we are the first face worshippers will see; therefore we work with a passion to assist with directions throughout the church. The Philip & Phoebe Ministry functions in a supportive role to the Deacon Council and the Church. The ministry is composed of the spouses of ordained deacons and trustees. The primary ministry is that of new member visitations. Through home visits, new members are ministered to as they proclaim their faith in God and assimilate into the Church family. The ministry assists the church family as needed with baptism, communion, sacristy, and funerals. Philip & Phoebe Ministry meets on the 4th Monday at 6:00pm every other month from February through October.

other related duties. Ushers are actively involved with the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association (MGBA) and District III of the NC State Ushers. In addition, ushers are involved in a mission project every quarter. Ushers' Ministry meeting and training is every 4th Saturday from 10:00am to 12:00noon.

The Volunteer Ministry's Goal is to support the church in developing and implementing a process to increase ministry awareness and involvement, ultimately increasing member involvement in ministry each year, resulting in an increased percentage of membership retention. We work closely with DeiVision Ministers to communicate to the congregation, via church publications, and various audio/visual and IT methods of media, the "Mission" of each church ministry and how they may become involved. Our Vision is to involve a diverse (age) group of Friendship members as volunteers in ministries and programs, with members ultimately gaining a sense of ownership in Friendship and commitment to remaining members.

The monthly meeting is every 3rd Tuesday at 7:00pm. The Brotherhood at Friendship is a diverse and progressive ministry of male members age 18 and over. The Brotherhood Ministry performs Christian outreach and mission both locally and abroad. We assist our church in all aspects of mission including but not limited to sick & shut-in visitation, Bible study, foreign mission, homeless shelters, youth mentoring, Church School, ushering, choir membership, and peer and educational support. We also perform community outreach projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Love Inc., Room In The Inn, and Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. We are constantly seeking new and exciting mission and ministry opportunities to uplift God's Kingdom.

As African-Americans, we must see our heritage as a gift from God which requires good stewardship on our part. One of the first steps to being a good steward of our history and heritage is to return to our roots and claim what is uniquely ours as African-Americans. Often this "return home" during the series of lectures requires that we face the many stigmas of our past, both individually and collectively. It causes us to re-examine who we are in light of who God intended us to be. In addition, it causes us to determine what must die and what is to be carried with us as we grow to engage in mission and ministry.
Bible Study

2 Timothy 2:15 tells us, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (NIV) For the people of God to understand God's directive, we must read, and study the Word of God. It is in God's word that we find direction for our daily walk, our trials and temptations. We also have evidence that God has been faithful to his sons and daughters during the entire course of history from the very beginning (Genesis) amid, family squabbles, exile in unfamiliar physical settings, slavery, and war. God's Word is the testimony of the faithful (the remnant) that testifies of God's faithfulness to those who are obedient, faithful stewards of all God has given, even in the midst of obstacles that appeared to be impenetrable. The Word of God is our assurance of God's Love for us through Jesus Christ, God's Son and our Savior and the Holy Spirit our comforter, teacher and guide. Bible study opportunities are currently available on Sunday mornings in Church School, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday, every Wednesday and Thursday and on the 1st and 3rd Saturday (for Women ONLY). Church School

It began in England as the Sunday School movement (1780) and continues today under a variety of names, including the Sunday Church School, or the Church School. Even though the Sunday school originated over two hundred years ago, most church leaders believe that an organized program of intergenerational Christian teaching still has a significant place in the life of local congregations. Our primary concern at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is to meet the educational and spiritual needs of our children, youth, and adults so they may grow into mature Christian disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Ministry

The Evangelism Ministry works closely with the Vacation Bible School, Church Revival and
Homecoming activities, and assist Deacons as they serve Holy Communion to the Sick and Shut-in members. The Ministry hosts the Monthly Morning Prayer Breakfast held every 3rd Saturday at 7:00am, which is usually an hour long event filled with prayer, praise, testimony, scripture and
devotional thoughts brought by the various assigned ministries in the church, followed by breakfast
prepared by the men of the church along with the Brotherhood. Breakfast is also prepared for deliveries to the sick and shut-in members.
Literary Club

The Literary Club Ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1988 with the purpose of reading and discussing one book per month. Our special emphasis is reading books by African-American authors. Every year, from September through June, the Literary Club meets on the 4th Monday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
Tutorial Ministry

The purpose of the Tutorial Ministry is to provide evening assistance for children who need help with homework or a specific subject area. The Tutorial Ministry is available each school year from October through April. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This ministry is open to the community, which extends beyond the Friendship membership.
Vacation Bible School-FMBC

VBS is a one-week Bible based curriculum held each year in July. Vacation Bible School is a time for parents, students, the community and the church to come together to learn, to be challenged, and to enhance their individual knowledge about Jesus Christ. Activities are held throughout the week for children and adults. Children, youth, young adults and adults are invited to participate in the learning experience, the teaching experience, the outreach experience and the overall ministry experience of Vacation Bible School at Friendship. Vacation Bible School-Jamaica

One of the global mission outreach ministries of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is VBS Jamaica. This is a one week Bible based curriculum held each year in Ocho Rios Jamaica. A team of mission workers travels to Jamaica to teach, preach and minister to the people of Ocho Rios Jamaica. Persons participating in this mission trip are challenged in their spiritual growth, outreach and evangelism. Friendship Trays Ministry

The Friendship Trays Ministry is a program that serves elderly, handicapped and convalescing people, who reside within a designed service area and are greatly restricted in their ability to procure meals. Each recipient receives hot and cold food and a container of milk or juice. Special diets are available upon doctor's written orders. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday by volunteers who are willing to make deliveries between 10:00am - 11.30am.

The purpose of the H.E.A.L.S. - Finding Joy Ministry is to provide the members of Friendship
Missionary Baptist Church with spiritual tools to guide them through their loss experiences. The monthly meeting provides a safe place where you can experience emotive expression (peace, confusion, joy, anger, etc.) during your loss.

The Health and Wellness Ministry is comprised of congregants, some who are health professionals as well as non-health professionals interested in promoting health and wholeness and understanding the importance of the integration of faith and health. The members assist the Parish Nurse with health and wellness services provided to the congregation and community. recognizing the interrelationship of the spirit, body and mind. The Parish Nurse is an excellent resource for health education, health counseling and referrals.

Senior Citizen Ministry

The Senior Ministry's objective is to provide our senior members opportunities and a platform for spiritual growth, fellowship and lifelong learning experiences. To develop relevant programs that will enhance knowledge, increase visibility of seniors, provide an information network, provide support systems, and provide outlets for physical and recreational needs.
Wedding Ministry

Consists of experienced Wedding Directors who provide courtesy consultations to prospective brides, give guidance to wedding directors who are not members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with regard to the church's procedures for a Christian Wedding and may often serve by directing weddings in the church.
