African-American Heritage  

The African-American Heritage Ministry focuses on enlightening the church and community of the rich and diverse nuances of Africans in the Americas, with undergirding Christian perspective.  Many of the activities of the African-American Heritage Ministry take place during Black history month; however, the ministry is moving towards year-round activities and that inform, challenge and grow interest in African-American Heritage with a holistic approach.

Angel Tree

The FMBC Angel Tree Ministry reaches out to children with the love of Christ by giving Christmas gifts. Ministry participation includes the following activities:

  • Contacting Parents or Caregivers to get the gift wishes of the children
  • Prepare angels for distribution
  • Distribute the Angels to the Congregation (who in turn purchase gifts for the children)
  • Gift collection
  • Plan and participate in the culminating Angel Tree Program or Distribution Party
  • Wrapping Gifts
  • Distribute the gifts to the children at church or make home delivery if necessary

The Angel Tree Ministry activities start in October and goes through the second Saturday in December. Contact angeltree@friendshipcharlotte.org if you would like to volunteer for this ministry.

Audio Video Ministry

The AV Ministry provides audio, video, and lighting technical support for Sunday services, church events, special programs, and conferences. Ministry team members will work with audio and video equipment including cameras, microphones, monitors, recording and duplication equipment, mixers, and editing programs. We also provide assistance with stage and video management for speakers, musicians, music and arts, and the overall congregation.

This ministry works closely with AV Team Leader, Church Administration, DeiVision of Music and Arts to support services and events. Experience is a plus but training is available. Please watch the church bulletin, website and monitors for meeting and event dates. Assignments are flexible based on knowledge and availability.

Brotherhood  

We are the men of God, called to be leaders in our families and community. We develop through learning the expectations of a Christian man (biblically), socializing with like minded Christian men and taking action to meet community and church family needs. Our main focus is to teach men to engage each other spiritually to become what God wants us to be. We work on community projects (Serving at the Statesville’s men shelter, cooking for the Prayer breakfast, building handicap ramps, Sunrise Morning Call and Ushering) as well as working with other ministries within the church. The Brotherhood meets every other month on the 3rd Tuesday starting at 7:00 PM.

Community Food Table  

Born in the heart and mind of our visionary leader, Pastor Jones, in 2008, this ministry engages the total church family in bringing nonperishable food items to help stock area food pantries and assist area churches in feeding the poor. General Duties:  Sort, pack, weigh and record weight of boxes with canned goods and other non-perishable food items for distribution to individuals, area food pantries, schools and churches in the greater Charlotte area. Meeting the first Monday of each month (unless it is a holiday) at 10:00am.

CROP Walk

CROP Walk (Christian Rural Overseas Program) began in 1946. Participate in the fund raising walk endeavors to help alleviate hunger and poverty in Charlotte and around the world.  General Duties include: recruiting, walking, soliciting and other volunteer activities.  This is a seasonal ministry during the August – October time frame. Meetings are scheduled, as needed.

Evangelism

Works closely with Vacation Bible School, Church Revival and Homecoming activities and hosts the monthly Prayer Breakfast, as we seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in a variety of ways. The monthly prayer breakfast is held every 3rd Saturday, 7:00 am – 9:00 am.

Greeters Ministry

The Greeters Ministry is a service ministry dedicated to helping and giving. We strive to uplift the mission of FMBC by ensuring that all who enter our Father’s house feel welcomed. Our responsibility is to greet worshippers with God’s warmth through an enthusiastic greeting and a warm and heartfelt smile. In most cases we are the first face worshippers will see; therefore, we work with a passion to assist with directions throughout the church. General duties are to greet 1 hour at least one Sunday, one service a month.

The purpose of the Hospitality Ministry is to serve as the official church ministry assisting in church wide events. This ministry also extends a warm welcome to our visiting friends in hopes that each individual experience CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD in a Christ-centered spiritually oriented atmosphere. Jail Ministry

The Jail Ministry is a team of women who have a compassion for the incarcerated. Our mission is to serve with the compassion of Christ to the incarcerated women at Jail Central. Trusting God that each visit they will experience His love and grace as we share with each other. “…I was in prison and you visited me.”! (Matthew 25:26)

We go in groups of two each 3rd Saturday of the month from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. We minister how ever the Holy Spirit leds with bible study, song, praise, and testimony. We meet twice a year in January and June to do our monthly calendar for the year and talk about other ministry opportunities.The time of our meetings are on Tuesday from 6pm-7:30pm.

Literary Club  

The Literary Club Ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1988 with the purpose of reading and discussing one book per month. Our special emphasis is reading books by African-American authors and also on topics of spirituality, culture, and empowerment. We also read and discuss other enjoyable topics recommended by our members. This ministry is an opportunity for both growth and fellowship. Marriage Enrichment Group

MEG provides a medium for married couples of all ages to nurture their relationships based on biblical principles. MEG provides premarital counseling and fellowship with other couples through spiritually based seminars, workshops, retreats and fellowship. Military Ministry

The primary mission and vision of Friendship’s Military Ministry is to serve God first and provide support, resources and information to past and present military members and family. Through the assistance of God, we coordinate and bring services and resources to our church members and to the public by focusing on recognizing the military service of our Veterans and their families. General Duties:

  1. Partnered with the Sunday school department to send items to deployed troops
  2. Visited Veterans Living Facility in Salisbury
  3. Sponsored undergarment drive for teen project, and volunteered time at the Men Shelter in Charlotte
  4. Sponsored and solicited items for toiletry drive; and volunteered time at the emergency children’s shelter in Gastonia
  5. Support church services during Memorial and Veterans Day
  6. Host annual Military Information Fair.

We meet every 3rd Sunday immediately after the 9:30 AM service.

Quilting Ministry

The Quilting Ministry mission statement is “Sharing the Joy of Christ; Warming Hearts with Quilts”. We use the craft of quilting to serve and minister to various mission foci while promoting the art of quilting in the African-American Community. We use the resources provided by the church and the quilting members to complete the projects assigned for the year. Usually there are 3 – 4 projects.

We provide quilts for Pastor Jones to distribute to visiting ministers and other mission foci such as My Sisters’ House, Serenity House, Presbyterian Hemby Childrens Hospital, Oxford Children’s Home, Da Vita Dialysis Center, Emmett Till Museum, American Red Cross, ICOM, and My Sisters House.

The Quilting Ministry meets the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM in the Adult Fellowship Hall at 3301 Beatties Ford Road.

Our objective is to build and strengthen voices to address local, state and national issues as they arise through purposeful dialogue and deliberate action.  General duties:  Attend meetings on a consistent basis and have a passionate belief in the rights of others in our community and be willing to advocate for  those rights.  The ministry meets every third Monday, (unless otherwise notified) of the month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Meetings may vary during the summer months.

The Gallery at Friendship

The Gallery at Friendship is a retail shop that specializes in providing high-quality, tasteful, unique and Christian merchandise including beautiful accessories, educational literature, and eccentric home décor collectibles. We offer “retail with a mission…because Quality matters.”

General Duties: Welcome visitors to The Gallery; Assist clients with their purchases and event payment needs; Share and spread the love of Jesus Christ. Ministry members are asked to assist one Sunday per month from 8:30am – 11:30am or from 10:30am – 1:30pm. Meetings are held once a quarter.

The Spirit of Christmas

To provide the true meaning of Christmas through ministry, meals, gifts and clothing to homeless and under-served families in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. There are multiple opportunities for volunteers including, but not limited to the following: serving on the planning committee for the annual event, volunteering to help children and their families during the event and assisting with collection of clothing and gift item donations as well as organizing and sorting these items in the weeks leading up to the event.

Ushers Ministry

As Christian Stewards, the Ushers’ Ministry strives to provide effective service by helping to maintain order and reverance of the worship service so that God is glorified, Jesus Christ is exalted and the Holy Spirit is acknowledged. The Ushers Ministry is a vital part of the worship service. We do our best to ensure parishioners enjoy a comfortable and positive worship experience and work with other ministries to conduct a smooth and an orderly service. General Duties:

  • Welcome parishioners into the sanctuary
  • Present worshipers with the church bulletin and usher them to their seats
  • Collect the tithes, offerings, and love gifts
  • Provide parishioners directions throughout the church campus
  • Assist the Security team & Health cabinet
  • Sponsor & support mission projects

The volunteer ministry supports the church in developing and implementing a process to increase member involvement in ministry. Our ministry objectives are:

  • To bring the church mission statement to life in a member’s commitment to serve
  • To work with the church enlistment staff and the Barnabas Ministry to retain new members through involvement in Ministry
  • Communicate with members (new and established) to determine their volunteer service interest
  • Match members to opportunities to render service within Friendship and the Community

  • To implement and maintain Leadership Development for Ministry Leaders

Consists of experienced Wedding Directors who provide courtesy consultations to prospective brides, give guidance to wedding directors who are not members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with regard to the church’s procedures for a Christian Wedding and may often serve by directing weddings in the church.
