A TRIBUTE TO OUR FIRST LADY—MRS. C. BRENDA JONES

A living soul is suddenly gone from our midst
And because of a life well-lived, a wonderful legacy exists
She was more to us than just Pastor’s wife 
We saw in her love, joy; we saw in her life

Her favorite place to worship in church was never a special pew
She could be seen sitting anywhere—beside me or you 
We all remember her pleasant smile and warm greeting
Whether to a familiar face or in a first-time meeting

Her leadership role was never overpowering but evident
When she chose to speak, we all knew what she meant
Her influence was great among all components of the church’s operation
She considered us family--the church’s congregation

She appeared to view everyone with the same kind of love
That made them feel not ordinary, but slightly above
“Hon” and “darling” were terms of endearment she used to show
How she deemed you as special and she wanted you to know

I cannot describe all the fine qualities our First Lady possessed
That by her family and close friends could be better assessed
What I mention here are the qualities that can easily be observed
That were so much a part of her in the role that she served

So, I say to the family of our dearly beloved
We know that God has a role reserved for her up above
This He does for all persons of great worth
Especially those who exemplify His will on earth.
