Theme: Chosen In The Lord
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 16:1-8
Scripture: Keep me safe, my God, For in you I take refuge. 2 I
say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” 3 I
say of the holy people who are in the land, “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.” 4 Those
who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour
out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips. 5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my
lot secure.
6 The boundary lines have fallen
for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. 7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I
keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him
at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Thought: This is a beautiful testimony of trust in God. The
psalmist begins with a simple but powerful prayer: “Preserve me, O God, for
in thee do I put my trust” (Psalm 16:1). It reminds us that life often
places us in situations beyond our control, but our safety and security are
ultimately found in the Lord. David acknowledges that every good thing he has
comes from God. In verses 5–6 he says, “The Lord is the portion of mine
inheritance and of my cup… The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea,
I have a goodly heritage.” In other words, David recognizes that God
Himself is the greatest blessing. When we realize that God is our portion, we
learn contentment even when circumstances are uncertain. Verse 7 reminds us
that God guides us: “I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel.” The Lord not only protects us but also instructs us, speaking to our hearts and
leading us in the right path. Finally, verse 8 declares a powerful truth: “I
have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not
be moved.” When we keep God at the center of our lives—before our
decisions, our worries, and our plans—we gain stability and confidence. Life
may shake around us, but we will not be shaken.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank You for being our protector, guide, and portion.
Help us to keep You before us in every part of our lives. When we feel
uncertain, remind us that You are at our right hand and we shall not be moved.
Strengthen our trust in You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Positive Practice: Take five quiet minutes today to “set the Lord before you.” Pause, breathe, and
thank God for three blessings in your life. Let gratitude remind you that God
is your portion.
Lenten Emphasis: Choose one small distraction today—perhaps unnecessary screen time, worry, or
negative thinking—and replace it with a brief prayer: “Lord, You are my
portion and my strength.”
