TODAY'S LENTEN DEVOTIONAL

Date: March 28, 2026
Theme:
Notice Bathsheba’s name isn’t mentioned…. “and David the King begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Uriah.”
Today’s Scripture: Matthew 1:1-16(Genealogy of Jesus, 42 generations recorded)

Scripture:  St. Matthew. 1:6- (No mention of David’s Mother by name with Jesse and subsequently no mention of Solomon’s Mother with David the King by name. Bathsheba was only referenced in Matthew 1:6 by who she was before she became David’s Wife. Everyone doesn’t need to know your name to know the impact and purpose you have in your lifetime and the legacy to follow. God purpose, plan, and impact supersede name recognition.)

Thought: No mention of David’s Mother by name with Jesse his Father and subsequently no mention of Solomon’s Mother with David the King by name. Bathsheba was only referenced in Matthew 1:6 by who she was before she became David’s Wife. Her impact and contributions as Solomon’s Mother, David’s Wife, and the part she played in King David and her lineage were undeniable reference 1 Kings first and second chapter. Everyone doesn’t need to know your name to know the impact and purpose you have in your lifetime and the legacy to follow. It’s also more important whose name you are coming in than your name as well. God purpose, plan, and impact supersede name recognition.

Short Prayer: Lord you are God. Your name is above every name, at your name every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that you are Lord. Lord, help us to humble ourselves before you and seek you. Lord, we know in due time you will exalt us as you see fit. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus the Christ our Lord, Savior, Redeemer and Intercessor, AMEN.

Positive Practice: Do what is good not for name recognition or to name drop. Let your actions be pure and God in due time will recognize you with integrity to those who need to know who you are and what you did.

Lenten Emphasis: Nutrition & Healthy Eating. Your body is the temple of God. Feed your body the food in a way that maximizes who and what you should be wherever you go.

Mission Emphasis: As we approach Intergenerational Sunday and it is still Women’s Month. Take time to thank God in prayers for Women of the past, present, and future.
