Theme: Our People, God’s People
Today’s Scripture: Romans 9:19–26
Scripture: “I will call them ‘my people’ who were not my people… beloved.” - Romans
9:19–26
Thought: Paul speaks to communities who know rejection, exclusion, and the pain
of being told that they do not belong. Yet God tells a different story. God
names the rejected as "beloved," gathering the excluded into a divine
family. Divine mercy is not controlled by human systems or limited by social
boundaries. Our identity is rooted in a love that refuses to let us go.
Prayer: God who claims the forgotten and loves the rejected, heal wounds of
exclusion and help us live as a beloved community reflecting your mercy and
welcome in the world. Amen.
Positive Practice: Speak this truth over yourself today, “I am God’s
beloved,” and offer welcome to someone who feels unseen.
Lenten Emphasis - Heart Health for African Americans: Rejection and racism harm the heart;
practice emotional and physical care to affirm that your life is precious. Talk
with someone you trust, rest when you need to, move your body gently, and seek
medical support when needed. Caring for your heart affirms that life is
precious.
Mission Emphasis - HBCUs: Support HBCUs as institutions that
embody belonging, dignity, and possibility for Black students.
