Social Justice Ministry
Aspiration Statement: To build and strengthen voices for action to address local, state, and national issues as they arise through purposeful dialogue and deliberate action.
Scriptural Reference: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. (Isaiah 61:1) KJV
Our Story
The Friendship Missionary Baptist
Church Social Justice Ministry was launched as a proposal to our senior
minister, Dr. Clifford A. Jones, Sr. in 2010 by its first trainer and chair, Dr. Carrie W. Gibson. It was outgrowth of a project
called Achieve Together funded by a generous grant from
the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project was awarded to and
facilitated by Lee Institute of Charlotte. The first Social Justice meeting was
held February 20, 2011 at Friendship Missionary Baptist, 3301 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte.
The intent was to develop a
mechanism of advocacy with the Charlotte Mecklenburg community to address
disparities within the educational system, political agendas, community health
and welfare, information on viable food resources and the overall well-being of
citizens.
